1932

John E. Day Funeral Home was established in the latter part of 1932 in Red Bank, NJ by John E. Day. The first location was on the northeast corner of Broad Street and Harding Road, fronting on Broad Street.

1935
John E. Day purchases the Milano restaurant building and property at 85 Riverside Avenue from Assunta Milano on June 7th. (This structure formerly stood on the east side of Riverside Avenue on the site now occupied by the Molly Pitcher Inn.) Renovations were made converting the first floor to a funeral home and the top two floors as a residence.

1940's-1950's
Additions were added to the structure to make the funeral home larger and more accommodating to our families.

1958
In January 1958 the funeral home was purchased by Cy Sidun, son-in-law of John E. Day.

1966
As business started to grow, plans were formulated to build a new structure to better facilitate our area families. In November, ground was broken and construction started on a completely new colonial style building. It was planned to continue the use of the old facilities until the new one was completed and ready for use. This was not to be.

1967
Fire breaks out in the old building on February 27th leaving the old building useless. However, we did not miss a beat in continuing our service to our families. With the help and assistance of our good neighbor, Mr. Fred Adams, we were granted the use of his funeral home for a period of about five weeks while we located and prepared a temporary facility. This temporary facility was located at the corner of Pearl and Front Streets on property owned by Schwartz Auto Agency. This particular building was the former Mount Funeral Home.

Our new building was completed in October and we moved in immediately. These new facilities offered us three chapels and a parking lot for fifty plus cars. The Red Bank area accepted this new facility very well and our business trends started to grow rapidly.

Cy's son, Charles Sidun, joined our staff.

1978
Cy's son, Douglas Sidun, joined our staff.

1986
We continued to operate with three Siduns (Cy, Chuck and Doug) until October 1986 when Chuck and Doug Sidun purchased the funeral business and took over its operation.

1989
Acquisition of the Bedle Funeral Homes in Keyport and Matawan.

1990
Cy's son, Ted Sidun, joined our staff. Acquisition of the Braun Funeral Home in Eatontown.

1992
Cy's son, Drew Sidun, joined our staff.

1995
Acquisition of former First Fidelity Bank Building. Renovations begin to convert this building into the Family Center.

1996
The Sidun family proudly hosts a grand opening of their new Family Center located at 33 Allen Place, Red Bank, one half block away from the John E. Day Funeral Home. The Family Center is exclusively dedicated to at-need and pre-need funeral conferencing. It offers the grieving family a private setting apart from visitations or funeral services, which are held at the funeral home.

The fully handicap accessible building offers three conference rooms and a display room for cremation and burial caskets, urns, and vaults.

1997 to Present
Sidun Funeral Group joins Carriage Services, a company of select funeral homes and cemeteries that specialize in personal and meaningful tributes. As our mission statement states, we are committed to being the most professional, ethical, and highest quality funeral and cemetery service organization in our industry. Ted Sidun, Partner-Senior Director

Ted Sidun, grandson of John E. Day, joined Sidun Funeral Group as a Licensed Funeral Director in 1990. Ted graduated from the University of Denver with a BSBA, attended the University of Pittburgh's Semester at Sea program and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City.

Ted is very active in the community and is involved in many organizations: He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a former member and on the Board of Directors of the Keyport Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce a member and supporter of St. Georges By The River Episcopal church in Rumson..

Ted and his wife Jennifer have two daughters, Liza and Reese. He enjoyes biking, swimming, tennis, skiing, scuba diving, sailing and kitesurfing.

Cy Sidun, Licensed Funeral Director

Cy started his career as a mechanical Engineer before attending the McAllister School of Embalming in New York and graduating first in his class. He purchased the funeral home from his father-in-law, John E. Day in 1958 and managed and operated it as president until 1986.

Cy is very active in his community: He is a member and president of the Red Bank Lions Club, a life member of the Red Bank Elks Lodge#233, a life member of the Red Bank Knights of Columbus Council#3187 and a member of the American Legion Post 168.

Cy has six children, five sons and one daughter. Two of his sons have chosen to follow him into funeral service and work along with him today. Cy has been married to his second wife Carol Shaheen since 1987.

Cy is an avid snow skier and bicyclist. He is a member and supporter of Rails to Trails Conservancy, the Appalachian Trail Conference, the American Museum of Natural History and Adventure Cycling.

Douglas Day Sidun, Licensed Funeral Director

Doug, a grandson of John E. Day, has been with the Sidun Funeral Group since 1981. He graduated from the University of Denver in Colorado before attending the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York.

Doug is an active member of his community. He is a member and past President of the Red Bank Kiwanis Club; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fair Haven Council; a member of the Monmouth and Ocean County Funeral Director's Association; a member of the Chamber of Commerce; and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Red Bank.

"Each and every family I serve in our community reminds me how individual we all are in what we need as we grieve for a loved one. My commitment to each family is to learn more about them and that loved one. The end result should always be a meaningful and memorable final tribute.

Doug and his wife Karin have three daughters. His hobbies are water skiing and snow skiing.

Sheri Sidun, Licensed Funeral Director

Sheri started her funeral service career in California working for Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Piedmont , CA. from 1988-1991. She relocated back to her home state of NJ and joined Sidun Funeral Group in November 1991 and has been with the firm since then other then a brief tenure with Thanexus.

Sheri graduated first in her class from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. Before attending mortuary school she attended Villanova University in Philadelphia , Pa and then earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from Creighton University in Omaha , Nebraska .

The majority of Sheri’s tenure with Sidun Funeral Group has been in the capacity of advance funeral planning, assisting families in pre-planning their funerals and meeting Medicaid requirements. She currently serves the funeral homes as a funeral director assisting both families that have experienced a loss and those who are pre-planning.

Sheri is a communicant of Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach , where she resides with her husband, Drew, (grandson of John E. Day) and their two daughters, Abigail and Stephanie. She is an active member of the Monmouth Beach School PTA and Monmouth & Ocean County Funeral Director’s Association. Sheri also enjoys snow skiing, boating, water skiing, reading and adopting animals from the SPCA.

Valerie Uras Condron, Licensed Funeral Director

Valerie Uras Condron has been with Sidun Funeral Group for over six years. She was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Because of her interest in funeral service she continued her education at Mercer County College to receive her funeral service degree.

Originally Valerie was from the Middletown and Red Bank communities; she presently lives in Tinton Falls with her husband Brian, a local artist, and their brown lab Rocky. Valerie’s father Joe also operates a local business Uras Monuments.

Valerie is involved with the Red Bank Catholic Alumni Association and volunteers with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Deanna Megill, Licensed Funeral Director

Deanna Megill has been with Sidun Funeral Group since June of 2006. She graduated from Long Branch High School and graduated with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Brookdale Community College. She graduated from Mercer County Community College with an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences and a certificate of Mortuary Science and transitioned from intern to a Licensed Funeral Director/Administrator.

Deanna was born and raised in the Long Branch community, enjoys spending time with her best friend and sister, Lori and with her family and especially loves her cats Nick E. and Julia and her beloved chinchilla, Commodore. Within the funeral home, Deanna runs a YMCA program every December in order to provide presents for children in need.

It is a privilege when people who were strangers to me yesterday, entrust their loved ones into my care…it is the greatest form of mutual respect and trust. The families I serve are aware that I am available to them at all times and that their loved ones are being treated as if they were my own relative.”
