Dorothy Gertrude Sasson, 94, entered into eternal life on March 23, 2017 in Red Bank. She was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to the late James Brown and Gertrude (Huot). Dorothy moved to Middletown in 1956 where she remained until 1993 when she moved to Shadow Lake Village. Her last eight years were spent at Brandywine at the Sycamore Assisted Living.
Dorothy attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar School and was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School. Following school, she worked as a long-distance operator for ATT. Dorothy devoted most of her life raising her eight children. She was a dedicated volunteer in many community organizations including St. James Rosary Alter Society, Peace of Christ Prayer Group, Meals on Wheels, “FISH” (For I Shall Help) and Riverview Medical Center. Some of Dorothy’s favorite pastimes were gardening, ceramics, sewing, baking, traveling, spending time at the beach and playing bridge with her friends. She had a great sense of humor which will never be forgotten by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Brandywine who were so caring and supportive to Dorothy during her stay.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, James F. Sasson in 1989, her brothers James, Frank, Tom, Patrick and Dick Brown; and her sister Marie O’Donnell. She is survived by her loving children, Jerry Sasson (Marilyn)of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lorraine Lechtenberg (Rod) of Omaha, NE, Robert Sasson (Sandy) of Saxonburg, PA., Dorothy Endler (Albert) of Howell, Jeanette Golden(Bob) of Howell, Kathy Ernst (Ralph) of Freehold, James Sasson of Bentleyville, PA., and Eileen Arzt of New Bedford, MA. Also, surviving, is her sister Lucille Brown of New Paltz, NY., and her 20 adoring grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Wednesday March 29, 2017 from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. James RC Church in Red Bank on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
