Mark C. Gammel of Atlantic Highlands
Mark C. Gammel, 97, passed away at home on February 7, 2018. He was born in Diessen, Germany to the late Otto and Ottilia (Schneider) Gammel and was a lifelong resident of Atlantic Highland and a communicant of St. Agnes RC Church. Mark worked as a conductor for Jersey Central Railroad for 42 years before retiring and enjoyed working another twenty years at Monmouth Park Racetrack.
Mark is predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Josephine “Dolly” Gammel.
Surviving are sons: Mark and wife Jean of KY, Jeffrey of Atlantic Highlands, daughters: Suzanne Peoples of Atlantic Highlands, Christina Samaras and husband Peter of Middletown, grandchildren: Danielle Holter and husband Andrew of Fair Haven, Evie Santos of FL, Peter Mark Samaras of Middletown and great-grandchildren; Tristan and Ashton Holter, Kascity, Ejay and Kyla Santos.
Visitation will be held on Monday February 12, 2018 from 10AM to 1PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 with a funeral home service after followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in Mark’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
