Anthony L. “Tony” Marhan Jr, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Tinton Falls surrounded by his family on Friday, May 11th. He was born on April 16, 1937 in Linden, the son of the late Anton Marhan and Agnes (Kelbon) Marhan.

Tony was a graduate and proud alumni of Seton Hall University, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1964. While an accountant by training, Tony was a businessman at heart undertaking numerous careers throughout his life. He worked in the auto industry for many years early on in his career, had a successful career as the CFO of Community Distributors, Inc. which owned the chain of Drug Fair and Cost Cutters stores in NJ and most recently worked as a self employed financial consultant to J&J and Novartis. As an entrepreneur Tony owned and operated a VW car dealership in NJ, started and ran his own auto repair shop and even ventured into the restaurant business when he opened the Jersey Boardwalk restaurant in Hollywood, Fla. Tony was a long time communicant of St. Mary’s in Colts Neck and more recently the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach.

Tony was a proud member of the US Marine Corps from 1955 - 1958 and was passionate about the Marine Corps and his fellow veterans of all arms of the service. He often spoke passionately about his opportunity to visit with wounded veterans at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. Tony served as Commandant for the Marine Corps League - Jersey Shore Leathernecks Detachment 1313 and was honored as “Marine of the Year” in 2014. He proudly represented the Marines at information booths during the annual Fourth of July celebrations in Long Branch and organized events to honor and assist wounded veterans, including AmpSurf at the Jersey Shore.

He was an avid fisherman and boat owner, loved harness horse racing, owning many race horses throughout his life and was a huge supporter of his Alumni Seton Hall Pirate basketball team. But he enjoyed nothing more than sharing time and a bottle of wine with his many family members and friends. He will be remembered for his passionate spirit, warm heart, mischievous smile, and love and dedication to his family.

In addition to his parents, Tony is predeceased by his first wife of 28 years, Patricia (Edzek) Marhan. He is survived by his beloved wife Pamela Marhan of 14 years; his 4 children: Melissa; Peter (Theresa); Paul (Kathy) and Matthew (Cheryl) and his step children: Beth Prajzner (Chris) and Laura Shine (Kevin); as well as his adoring grandchildren Robert, Emily, Shannon, Meghan, Kyle, Hunter, Dakota, Shayne, Spencer and Zachary, Chloe, Brady and Ashley. He is also survived by his only sibling, his sister, Elsie Blanchette.

Visitation will be held at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave, Red Bank on Wednesday May 16, 2018 from 5-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 17, 2018 at Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
