Donald J. Porter 65 of Atlantic Highlands died suddenly on Monday, January 7, 2019. Born in South Amboy, he resided in Atlantic Highlands most of his life. Don served in the US Air Force from 1972 –1976 stationed in Korea and Montana. He has been employed as a chemical operator for the Lanxess Corp., in Fords for the past 35 years. Don is a former baseball and football coach for the Sandy Hook Little League and Pop Warner Programs. He is a member and Past Master of Caesarea Masonic Lodge in Keyport and served on the 2015 NJ Grand Staff as a Senior Steward. Don was instrumental in the formation of Raritan Chapter Order of De Molay for Boys and was awarded their Legion of Honor Award. He served two terms as Master of the Lodge of Perfection at the Valley of Northern NJ Scottish Rite and as their Commander in Chief in 2014. He was coroneted a 33rd degree Mason in 2009 and also holds their Meritorious Service Award.
Don is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janet A. (Gerrity) by two sons, Donald J. Jr. and Regan Rone and Andrew S. both of Atlantic Highlands, by a daughter, Nicole Korman and husband, Jeffrey of Howell, by four grandchildren, Kallie and Jakob Porter, Logan and Cullen Korman, by two brothers, Charles and wife, Mary Jane of Camden, SC and Thomas and wife, Liz of Navesink, and by two sisters, Linda Porter and Dianne Glading and husband, Pete both of Toms River.
Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank with Masonic Services at 8PM. Funeral services will be held 1PM Saturday at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 202 Navesink Ave., Atlantic Highlands. Cremation will be private. Memorial donations to the Children’s Dyslexia Center of NJ c/o Valley of Northern NJ P.O. Box 557, Union, NJ 07083 are preferred to flowers.
