Ernest H. Whelan, 95, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2021. He was born in Long Branch, NJ to the late Ernest Alexander and Emma (Lebow) Whelan. Ernest proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked 30 years for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 25 Marine Division. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time at Monmouth Racetrack, hunting, and fishing. He also loved carpentry work and could fix almost anything.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine (Martin) Whelan, his loving sons, Steven Whelan and Ernest D. Whelan and his wife Patricia, his cherished grandchildren, Jim Whelan, Laurie LoPresti and her husband Anthony, Casey Whelan and his wife Erica, and his great grandchildren, Amber and Michael LoPresti and Austin and Carter Whelan.
A visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Wednesday June 9, 2021 from 4 – 8 pm with a service beginning at 7:30 pm. Interment will be held privately on Thursday June 10, 2021 at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
