James Michael Fenlon of Middletown, NJ passed away peacefully on December 10, 2018 surrounded by the love of his family. James was born in Jersey City on September 29, 1920, resided in Kenilworth, NJ and Newburgh, NY, before moving to Shadow Lake Village. He enjoyed summers in his Ortley Beach home and wintering in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is the son of Michael and Margaret Fenlon.
James served in the 8th Air Force as a tech sergeant in England from 1942-45 receiving 6 air offensive commendations plus Distinguished Service Medal. During that period he married the love of his life, Florence Dembrowski of Bayonne. They were married until she passed in 2007. They had one daughter, Patricia Fenlon of Whiting, NJ and one son, James Fenlon II of Toms River.
James and Florence raised their family in Kenilworth, NJ for 17 where James was very active in the Knights of Columbus Councill 4186. He served as Grand Knight in 1967.
James worked 35 years for Sun Oil Company starting as a driver and worked his way up to Plant Manager, Newark, NJ. Just before James retired from Sun Oil, James and Florence moved to Shadow Lake Village in Middletown, NJ where they spent their retirement years.
James is predeceased by three sisters: Mildred Cronin, Margaret Jassa and Lillian Shanahan. His 4th sister, Katherine Larabee, lives in North Arlington.
James has five grandchildren: Christine Dzwolak (husband Michael), Karen Duncan (husband David), Blayze Fenlon, Travis Fenlon and Franchesca Fenlon. He also has five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Chase and Brooke Duncan and Devin and John Dzwolak. Also, he is survived by his loving companion, Olive Divineri.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 12, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Ave Red Bank, N.J. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday December 13, 2018 at 11:15 AM at St. James R.C. Church in Red Bank, N.J. followed by an interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in N. Arlington, N.J.
