Tribute

Josephine C. Gartner, 97, of Lincroft passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 19. She was born in Jersey City to the late Thomas and Bertha (Collette) Marsella before moving to Middletown in 1963.

Josephine was a parishioner at St. Leo the Great for many years and a longtime resident of Luftman Towers where she had many dear friends. She was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.  Josephine was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was known as “Gigi” (for great-grandma) by her loved ones.

She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence E. Gartner, and her siblings George, Helena, and Herman Marsella.

Surviving are her daughter Collette and Warren McManus of Middletown, her niece Linda Dressler of Middletown, her three grandchildren: Melissa and Scott Welch of Tinton Falls, Megan and Kevin Guinnessey of Middletown, and Michele McManus and Michael Leoni of Berkeley Heights; and her seven loving great-grandchildren: Aidan, Sean, Matthew, Brady, James, Collette, and Mia.

A visitation will be held at John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank on Thursday, March 22 from 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Leo the Great, Lincroft on Saturday, March 24 at 9:15AM, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet, Middletown.
