Kathleen “Kit” McConnell, 80, of Red Bank, passed away on June 20, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Red Bank, born to the late William and Mary O’Brien. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rutgers University. After raising her four children, Kathleen worked as a Social Studies and English as a New Language teacher for 15 years at Monmouth Adult Education Commission (MAECom) in Eatontown, NJ.
A competitive swimmer as a youth, she taught her children the benefits of sports, namely tennis and long-distance running. A lifelong learner, Kathleen also taught herself French and piano. Her wit, inveterate compassion, and strength inspired those around her.
She is survived by her best friend and beloved husband of 60 years, Arthur “Bud” McConnell, her loving children, Lauren Mazzari, Andy McConnell, Kate Johnson and Sarah Wheeler and her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Steven, Aiden, Sophie, Zoe, Jake, Ben, and Rose.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Church at 94 Broad Street in Red Bank, N.J. at 11 a.m. on July 20th, 2021.
