Louis Ameika

August 4, 1931 ~ November 8, 2023 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Louis (Lou) Ameika peacefully passed away on November 8th, 2023, after a spirited battle with dementia.    He bravely persevered through the process, holding his characteristic sense of humor and positive outlook.

Lou was born on August 4th,1931 in Scranton, PA. He lived a full and colorful life with his earlier years spent in his beloved Newark and Harrison, NJ, followed by his military service in Italy in the early 1950’s.

Graduating with a degree in Chemistry from Seton Hall University, Lou landed his big break with the company which would become Diamond Shamrock, where he worked his way through the corporate ladder until his retirement 36 years later.

During this time, he met his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Haddad and fathered two sons.  Lou worked through his career during the week and was intensively active in his sons’ life during the weekend. One would find Lou coaching soccer, volunteering, camping with unruly Boy Scouts, and supporting his children during their frequent bad behavior. Some things never change.
Later in life, Lou spent 20 years in Kansas City, MO and finally to Lakewood, NJ. Lou’s kind disposition allowed him to establish dear friendships and relationships throughout his travels, which persisted to the end.

Lou is survived by his two sons, Chris Ameika and his wife Giselle of Chicago and Ken Ameika and his wife Cheryl of Red Bank in the great state of New Jersey.   Lou is also survived by his sister Joann Evankow of Middlefield, Ohio. Lou’s loving wife Susan predeceased him in 2017.

Family and friends are welcome to say their last goodbyes to Lou on Sunday 12-November between 2PM and 4PM. A brief prayer of remembrance will be performed at 3:30PM. Services will be held at John Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund at www.curalz.org.
