Mark Levine

Tribute

Mark Levine, 69, of Summerville, SC, passed away on January 16, 2021. He was born in Long Branch, NJ to the late Philip and Pearl Levine. Mark was a retired music teacher and performer on Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion instruments.  He received his B.S in Music Education from Elon College, NC and finished Graduate Studies in Music Education and Music Therapy at Florida State University. He began work sanding and painting boats on the New Jersey Shore. While in college he tended bar, waited tables, and washed dishes in his family's restaurant. Before his career in music and teaching began he worked for a Butcher butchering and delivering meat and American Paper Company for 10 years, 7 of which he was Top Salesman.  He taught music to the disabled at Florida State Hospital, was Youth Choir Director in North Carolina and taught in Irvington, NJ schools. He worked in Wall Township Schools teaching grades 4-12 and with the Marching, Concert and Jazz Bands.  He managed the John Martin Music office and was a member of the worship team at his church. He worked part time after he retired for Toms River School District.  His performing experience included 2 USO tours for the Army and Navy during the Vietnam War era and Wedding Band MC and performer with Starbase. He performed with Chuck Lambert and Cal Vetrane Blues Band at Count Basie Theatre, Stone Pony and many other venues. Mark loved the Lord above everyone and everything and that was evident in his everyday life. He loved people and no one was a stranger to him.

He is predeceased by his brother, Stephen Levine and his brother in law, Tony Creta. Surviving is his beloved wife, Roben Levine, his loving children, Daniel and his wife Morgaine, Michael and his wife Padma Doobay, his step sons, Jason Green and his wife Danielle and Justin and his wife Kimberly, his cherished grandchildren, Indigo, Maya, Gavin, Dylan and Riley. Also surviving are his brother and sister in laws, Heidi Creta, Wendy Weir and her husband Timothy and Eric Gossger and his wife Donna and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Howard Dodge, Kasey Levine Hilleary, Tony and his wife Ashley, Michael and his wife Amanda, Christopher and his wife Heather, Jillian and her husband Noah and Eric and his wife Erin.

A private burial will be held at Monmouth Memorial Park in Tinton Falls. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 30th 2021 at 12:00 p.m. on zoom, available at http://unc.zoom.us/j/93217945981
