Mary Pat McGeehin, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 18, 2022 after a prolonged illness.
Mary Pat, born May 12, 1946, to Robert and Mary Ruth McGeehin in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, immediately brought happiness (and a wee bit of dramatic flair) into the world. Soon after her birth she was lovingly referred to as Sarah (after Sarah Bernhardt the actress). She went on to graduate from St. Gabriel High School in 1964, then a BA in Theater and English from Miseracordia University in 1968 and, later in life, a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993.
Mary Pat had a passion for child development, women’s rights, social justice and trauma and that led her to open multiple nursery schools in her young adulthood and later Lighthouse Counseling & Sand Play Training Center, LLC that she owned for 23 years with her daughter Gretchen. Mary Pat loved her family, her friends, her trainees, her supervisees, her clients, her dogs, the horses in Costa Rica, Long Beach Island, the Irish countryside, the Philadelphia Eagles, lattes with whole milk, chocolate croissants, Tavola Pronto breakfast sandwiches, Italian wines, bird watching, and maybe, most importantly, MSNBC.
Mary Pat is predeceased by her mother Mary Ruth (Grandmere), her father Robert (Mac) and brother Robert (Bobby).
Mary Pat is survived by her loving brothers and sisters, her daughters Jennifer Morris and Gretchen Morgan, her sons in law Jimmy Morris and Jason Stant and her beloved grandchildren Liam, Charlotte and Aidan. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and they inherited the best parts of her.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Pat is requesting that donations in her honor be made to the following non-profit organizations:
