Rita J. Desmond

Rita J. Desmond 79, of Rumson passed away at Jersey Shore, on January 4, 2018.  She was born in Rumson to the late John and Sigrid Mattson.  Rita worked as a computer technician for Fort Monmouth in Eatontown.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, playing cards, skiing and reading at the beach.  She was a member of the Fireside club in Middletown.

Rita is predeceased by her childhood sweetheart, beloved husband of 58 years, John J. Desmond, her loving daughters and their spouses Lori and Bob Oakes of Rumson; Linda and Vinny Simone of Lincroft; and Kathy and Tom O’Connor of Fair Haven.  She also, leaves behind her adoring grandchildren Anthony, Danielle, Joseph, Shannon, Kevin, Michael, John and Tommy; and her cousins Ulric and Mary Sorenson.

Visitation will take place on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the John E Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in Rita’s memory to ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
