Rita Slattery Truex - 1927 – 2018
Rita Slattery Truex 90, passed away after a brief illness on November 13, 2018 in Germantown, TN. A life-long Red Bank resident, she was a graduate of Red Bank’s Catholic schools and Berkeley Secretarial School, NYC. Her late husband, Raymond W. Truex, Jr., was a career Army officer and aviator, and they had lived in other areas of the United States and Europe.
Ms. Truex had served with the Fort Monmouth Red Cross Volunteers of Paterson Army Hospital. She was a driver for F.I.S.H. of Greater Red Bank, and an active member of the Shadow Lake Village Pet Club. She had been employed for many years previously by Otolaryngology Associates in Red Bank.
She was pre-deceased by her sons Michael R. (Lynn), Thomas A., and Joseph B., Sr. (Ethel). Her surviving children are: Patricia T. (Paul) White, Germantown TN, Philip M., Cordova TN, Mary T. (Rob) Portee, Long Branch, and John P. (Denise) Middletown. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church, where she had been a communicant all her life, will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 10 am. A Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
