Thomas Carl Fahmie

Thomas Carl Fahmie, 83, of Middletown, NJ passed away on December 20th, 2022. A memorial will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank, NJ to celebrate his life. 

Born on May 8th, 1939 to W. Michael Fahmie and Johanna Fahmie, from a young age, Tom found purpose and joy in hard work. From helping out at his Dad’s produce business as a kid to launching his first business venture of opening up and running a car dealership to his crowning achievement of building Commercial Data Processing, Tom's entrepreneurial endeavors were a lifelong passion. After purchasing CDP in 1971, he served as CEO for 30 years, employing more than 650 people with offices around the world. Tom was a businessman with a heart of gold willing to help anyone who needed guidance to succeed in life.

Tom was a lifelong pigeon racer, starting at the age of 14 in his hometown of Nutley, NJ. Tom’s great joy in life was breeding and racing pigeons and being a part of the worldwide community of pigeon fanciers. For over 50 years, Tom won it all in the racing pigeon sport. These wins include band races, special races, one-bird derbies, average speeds, and hundreds of first-place wins. It was his true passion and he forged many lifelong friendships through the sport. We know he’s taking pride in the fact that he raced until the very end. 

Known for his big bear hugs he was a gentle giant who made everyone feel comfortable and loved. He loved laughing and making others laugh. It was hard not to like him, even when he was ribbing you—which he did often to everyone he liked. He found humor in most things and always had a smile on his face, except maybe when he was driving on the Turnpike during rush hour or when the Yankees lost a game. He favored college sports over professional and his favorite team to root for was Women’s UConn Basketball.   

Tom enjoyed traveling, sports, pigeon racing, spending time with his friends and family, good company, and good food. He took pleasure in helping people however he could and he treated everyone equally. He loved nothing more than sitting on the banks of the Navesink River and waiting for his birds to come home on racing days. 

He is survived by the love of his life, Mimma Fahmie. They met in 1981 and married in 1985. They had 40 beautiful years together and were often laughing or making others smile with their quick banter and playful nature. Tom loved what Mimma referred to as “his birds” but there is no doubt that he loved Mimma more.

Tom leaves behind six children, Denise, Steven, Matthew, Nicholas and his wife Sarah, Christina, Michael and his wife Chere, along with three grandchildren, Michael Justin, Julia, and Christian. He is also survived by his brother Wayne and his three sisters, Pat, Judy, and Joan. 

Even though he will be missed immensely his family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his his son Tommy, his brother Mike, and his Mom and Dad.
